CALL FOR ARTISTS
Artists are needed to contribute creative designs and painting for Whitefish Bay’s Green Day in the Bay Community Art Project. Unfinished wooden birdhouses will be provided or artists may construct their own design. Stipends for materials available upon request. Artist recognition will appear on printed and electronic materials. Artists are encouraged to sign their piece and provide an artist’s statement that will also recognize their contribution.
Birdhouses will help raise awareness of the challenges facing local and global bird populations. Educational fact sheets regarding birds and their environment will be attached to each birdhouse. Approximately fifty birdhouses will be on display on Silver Spring in early May and at Whitefish Bay’s Green Day in the Bay in Cahill Park on Saturday, May 2nd which also recognizes International Migratory Bird Day. A “wine and stroll” auction event on Silver Spring will be held in conjunction with the project on Thursday, May 7th.
The Whitefish Bay Community Birdhouse Art Project is co-sponsored by the Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation, the Whitefish Bay Garden Club, and the Whitefish Bay Business Improvement District. Birdhouses will be made available for purchase via silent auction and proceeds will help support activities of the Civic Foundation and Garden Club.
Birdhouses will be ready for artist pick-up at the end of January and artists will need to deliver their completed birdhouses by March 13, 2015. Artists may complete multiple birdhouses and designs may be functional (bird-friendly and weather resistant) or purely decorative.
